Friendly staff. Clean bathrooms. 30 min to Key West. But... You are playing Russian roulette if you decide to tent in this campground. It would be more accurate to call these group campsites. You are assigned an area and not a site. Yes... For $68/night you are only guaranteed enough space to set up your tent. They don't have enough fire pits or tables for everyone. And, worse, you may have to be inches away from dozens of neighbors. It was a noisy, smoky, frustrating mess. We arrived on Christmas day and the staff said we could pick any spot in the red area. There were no site markers of any kind and only a couple of trees. We apologized as we squeezed in between two other campers. The next night we return to find two more tents (and two more cars!) wedged between us and the road. They had taken over our picnic table and fire pit. The ridiculous thing is that there was a larger open space a few feet away but they didn't realize they were allowed to use that area and so we picked up our tent and moved it at 9pm so that we didn't have to step over people when we had to use the bathroom. The really ridiculous thing is that when we talked to the KOA staff, they knew this was a big problem and we had 2 other people in line behind us with similar issues in their area. You will have no privacy in this site. If they are busy, you will be sleeping within inches of strangers and you may not have a fire pit or table. I'd be a little more understanding if they warned us of this on the site but nothing there.

We arrived here last Wednesday and got a good spot near office . Once we were checked in, we were helped to and into our site. The sites seem a bit smaller than some places we have been to. We were a little disappointed to find that their slow season began the prior Monday. That meant the store-office closed at 5:00 and the cafe was closed for the season. On Sunday as we were preparing to leave we found we had a mechanical problem with our motorhome . We were able to get AAA to come look and it was determined we would need a tow to a local garage. Being Sunday it was closed but the staff was not only good about keeping us on our site, but was able to recommend the right place to have it towed . Waiting now for a rental car to be delivered. The staff here has been checking on us...."if we need anything just let them know ' Place is kept clean. Right now it is not crowded so noise is minimal. Even the pub is quiet at night.

This is sad. I used to LOVE this campground. I was here a few years ago and the campground was kept so clean and well. Well this past weekend my fiance decided we should take a little vacation down to The Keys with the boat. We rented a trailer because we brought my two children ages 3 and 9 and thought this would be easier for them. $200.00 a NIGHT. The bad: ***Jacuzzi on our deck did not hold temp. It was sitting at 93 degrees. Called front desk a few times and they told me that they all had been struck by lightening and well it wasn't their problem. ***Ever try calling KOA customer service at 7pm? Guess what? They are CLOSED. I just called them a few hours ago and guess what? I got a VOICEMAIL. ***BBQ Grill had no cleaning tools and was super dirty. So dirty a fire started and burnt out food! ***NO fire pits for the trailers. I mean you pay $200 a night and your kids want to make some Smores....but NOPE *** Police came. Yep thats right. The trailer that was right next to us had 30 people staying in it and the police came. Then they thought WE called the cops on them!!! Umm...NO. ***The bar is like a senior citizen center. They have some very old guy playing 50's music trying to sell his book and he kept asking for TIPS. ***The bartender was very rude! But maybe thats why she got a $5.00 tip on a $100 tab. *** They wanted to charge us $75.00 a night to dock our small boat. ***Bathrooms looked like a 3rd world country. I would have been better off going outside! When I told the lady at the front office her excuse was that the cleaning lady leaves at 7pm so after that...nobody cleans them. ***The trailer smelled like old lettuce. It wasn't even cleaned before we got there. Never ever ever ever again. I am glad we paid with our Platinum card because I think we are going to contact them and dispute the charges. This was worth about $75.00 a night if that. I thought that KOA was just on Undercover Boss? They should visit this KOA! I'd think that this KOA would be a destination most people would want to go to so the corporate office should make sure its ran smooth. Sad...sad sad!

Ugh - just ugh. I think, having camped at the fabulously well-run state parks in the Florida Keys and having to stoop to KOA is what did it for me. Going from a clean, secluded campsite to Florida's equivalent of Woodstock is a total disappointment. Honestly, we got to the office for check-in (admittedly, though the staff is nice), and they told us to find a spot in the 'green zone.' What is this, Iraq? I thought to myself. We go back to said zone to pitch the tent only to find that other visitors have camped anywhere and everywhere in an inefficient and haphazard manner. So, seeking some semblance of solitude, we venture a little farther from other tent sites, only to discover that there are heaps of colonies of biting red ants all over the place! We should have keyed in on that after noticing the RAID and ant bait in the store/check-in counter. Thus, we settled on a 'site' somewhat close to other campers and just took off for the day. What a horrendous surprise to return later to see that more people have squeezed into the green zone than you thought possible! And that people have parked directly to the side of your tent! And that others try to park directly in front of your tent, as if it and your outdoor chairs weren't there! And that all of this woodstock-style camping costs a whopping $75 a night! Do not camp here, people, unless you are bringing an RV, which have clearly delineated spots and you can be above the ants. Also, you might think that their facilities are nice, which, admittedly, some are. The boat launch is super convenient, and in the summer I am sure the swim/play area is fantastic, but you will find sniveling, shrieking kids who drag their poor dogs onto the floating trampoline. And locals come over to the campground with their sick kids and play in the pool and hot tub. Seriously, there was a coughing, sniffling kid IN the frikkin' whirlpool, dunking her head and everything. I am over it. If you plan to camp in the keys, log onto the Florida State Parks website and secure yourself a spot on one of their cheaper, wonderfully maintained and isolated camp areas. Blughth.

So, we came for a few days over New Year's Eve. A lot of reviews hit the nail on the head; it is crowded. When we first arrived the thing that stood out was the amount of RV's jam packed side by side. There is no privacy between the vehicles at all. We are tent campers so we cringed a little. A member of the staff drove us back to the tent area and joked, "we went to great costs to denote the camping areas." He was referring to the paint on the trees. There are color coated areas for tent campers to have a free for all. Meaning you show up and stake a claim, there is equally no privacy but unlike the RV sites you do not have a designated area. If you get a fire pit you're lucky but they don't have grills on top. Tables are rare and had seen better days. The staff member who had shown us our site said you can set up wherever but the further back you go the worse the no see ums. You can go pretty far back on the area called the back 40. It seems that groups that want to be rowdy go back their and you can hear the music from parties well into the early morning. The bathrooms are rough. The shower heads are loose from the walls and some do not have very high pressure. There was always hot water when ever I went but the grout between the tile looked terrible and the trickle of water in some of the stalls was worthless. There were two family shower stalls which seemed like an important touch as this is a family camp ground. The toilets seem to be cleaned once a day but with that many people using them they look rough as well. Wet paper on the seats, clogged toilets...it was a mess. There was a sign saying the bathrooms will be renovated early 2014, crossed fingers. The pool looked to be in better shape than others said and was warm. On bingo night we noticed that they let a few people stay in the pool after hours which was nice I thought. The beach is skimpy but probably just right for little kids. They have a floating ice rock to climb but it looked very dirty. The bar area is long and filled with people who seem to know the staff like they were family. You can smoke so if you're not used to that it's a bit rough. I can't always tell if the bar was filled with campers or locals but people all knew each other. That's the bummer there does seen to be a group of people that love going here but for newbies like us the crowded grounds makes it look like all you care about is packing them in. Key West has such a draw but this is the worst KOA we've ever stayed at. They need to take care of the tent area by having designated spots, tables, and fire pits. The bathrooms need work, and perhaps more family stalls. The RV sites need to be spread out. If it looks like sardines in a can then it gives off the impression that you just want money and don't care about quality or customer service. This could be a fun and well maintained site. It should live up to the KOA standard.

This is probably the best KOA I have ever stayed at, not to mention the best situated KOA in America. We pulled in a class A into Sugarloaf KOA for 5 days this past week and had a wonderful time. This KOA has everything you could want in the Keys. Kayak rentals, a full marina, docks, a community pool and hot tub, fishing poles, multiple types of live and frozen bait. Everything. Oh, and a full bar that is open from Noon to 11 PM daily. Not to mention that the bar has normal prices and not the Lower Key prices that you're used to. $11 pitchers is a big win. The lots are also full hookup with cable and multiple wifi hotspots. The hotspots can be a little slow like the rest of the internet in the Keys, so you may have to wake up early to browse Facebook. The beauty of this KOA is that if you wanted to, you never have to leave the KOA for KW or Marathon. Everything you love about the Lower Keys is right here. It's paradise.

We almost didn't stay at southernmost KOA because of some of the reviews I read I think besides having very small sites the place is very nice the bar, pool, cafe, and even the bathroom/ showers are like brand new. And you cant beet the weather. For a reasonable fee we we're able to slip our boat. We would return again.

Just wonderful and what our family needed! It has everything! The showers are very clean and the pool area is fantastic. Having the marina and bar/food on site is a plus. Keep in mind it is the FL keys, so the beach area is rocky, but not a deal breaker. We have booked again for this year.

I've been coming here for years. We're RVers, not tenters. If you want to tent, you don't need the frills, like a restroom next door. This KOA is one of the best. Friendly, fun and full of amenities. OK, last year the hot tub was down, but now it's back. The entertainment is excellent, the food at the Lazy Lizzard is delicious, and did I say, the people who run the place are friendly? We're back this year, and looking forward to it. There's salt water, a heated pool, a hot tub, clean restrooms, laundry....and right down the road is Mangrove Mama's. It's alway a beautiful day at Sugarloaf KOA, rain or shine. And.. The Iguanas around the pool provide an interesting and funny entertainment.

Clean, new. Showers and restrooms..giant laundry facility. Friendly staff...many staff members seen cleaning throughout the day. Open air pub, coconut bowling for any age on Thursday nights...walking distance to the shore. Beautiful gift shop...gravel areas for campers and rv yet many trees for shade and foliage as well. We have no complaints here. Beautiful clean pool and spa area too.,

I give it 2 stars because its close enough to key west to stay at if you don't plan on actually spending any time here. And for that the price should be lower! Let's start with the complete lack of rules compared to other koas I've stayed in. Everyone's music as loud as they want, flashing lights in people's campsites all night long, like a nightclub, the site next to us must have had 12 people in it. We had a beach site sounds nice doesn't it? Wrong, Rude people walk through your area all day, step on your hoses and don't use the public entrance to the beach... Why are there no signs? It's mainly the people that stay in the tent sites that come down to the beach, party all day and then leave their trash... No ones here to regulate it! Amazing considering we pay a lot more than them and they ruined the whole experience. And to top it off its Fourth of July and I haven't heard anyone speak English all day! I won't be returning needless to say. P.s. The other reviews are right the sites are crazy small our 37 foot travel trailer almost didn't fit and we parked the truck In overflow parking.

Just had a amazing dinner at Francesca Italian restaurant. My boyfriend had a veal dish. It was excellent, the veal was tender and melted in your mouth. It came with a generous side of pasta with authentic one of the best sauce I've tasted. I had a pasta with seafood dish, that was absolutely delicious. It had a generous portion of clams and shrimp and was enough for 2 meals. We had a piece of pizza for an appetizer. It was very good and we found out they have a special and on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, where you can get a 16" pizza for $7.95. The service was very good. The owner was very nice and made sure everything was perfect. A definite must.

great campsite under the trees in the back half of the property - had an unfortunate, minor incident due to previous partiers and carelessness with bottles. when presented with the issue the staff was courteous, concerned with our safety as well as our dog's, understanding and apologetic. we received a refund in full with no resistance even though we stayed one of our two paid nights. no real issues with the staff, location or setup just so happens that people before us in that area never learned to recycle glass.

I would not recommend this campground if you intend to enjoy your stay in they keys. It is terribly overpriced and you do not get nearly enough "bang for your buck". When I arrived, the deluxe tent-site that I had reserved was nowhere to be found and I was left with the option of camping on the "back 40". The staff was very unorganized and seemed to be clueless on the goings-on of the establishment. I had camped here before and had a wonderful time....10 years beforehand. In the last decade, this campground has gone from an amazing tropical destination to an establishment in serious need of refurbishing, better training for the staff, and a higher standard like the one that once was held. I recalled the designated beach area as being amazingly beautiful and when I visited it this time I felt like I could have bought the floating amenities in the water(trampoline and something to climb on) on ebay for $10 and they would've been in better quality. The bathrooms were always packed and in serious need of cleaning. There was no kind of enforcement that prevented those around us from being unruly and unreasonably loud. At 3AM, the night after I had driven 15 hours to reach my destination, I could hear an inebriated college girl screaming at her friend for at least at least two hours about how she had left her alone downtown in Key West. Everyone on the "back 40" could hear her screaming "Becky, you left me!" along with many profane terms for what felt like forever. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.

This place is a joke! Everything is old - from restrooms to pool, cafeteria, store.... At cafeteria in the morning they have just a lady taking care of orders and making plates - and was spring break week with full place! Half of menu not even available at opening !!! Bathrooms are so small that if there are 5 people at same time will be packed!!! You will not be able to walk! And was not that clean also!! But man.... They know how to charge you!! We stayed at a site with just electric and water, 2 adults and one child in a tent and they charge us $90 a day!!!!!! We have being to Disney's Fort Wilderness that is 1000000 X better and they charge $70 for a full hookup site!!! And Disney are really expensive!!! Sites are dirty (bottle caps, cigarets tips, paper....) full of weeds not grass. Tables / benches at sites were so old that you are afraid to sit on then and get hurt by rust nail! They should at least paint the tables but apparently last paint was at 5 years ago!!! Resuming: this place looks like "abandoned" and people here just want to take money from you not giving what you paid for back!! Keep away!!! As far as possible!!!

Came here with my parents and their friends to watch Howard Livingston and his band play. There was some food (limited grilling and pulled pork being cooked on site - nothing special) and a standard bar. They had bar snacks out on the tables which tasted a bit stale because of the humidity. I only had beers but they were ridiculously cheap compared to what I'm used to; $3 for a decent cup of beer. I had Yuengling, though I think they had both domestics and foreign beers available, along with mixed drinks. The nicest touch was that because the bar/restaurant area is entirely open air and on the water, the mosquitoes were really terrible. However, they had bug spray available for everyone there on the bar (multiple bottles) free to use. I covered myself from head to toe and had no problems with the annoying buggers for the remainder of the night! BOTTOM LINE: If there's someone playing, this place is worth checking out. Off the beaten path, cheap cold beer, and a nice crowd made it a fun, comfortable hangout.

I've camped here 4+ times. Okay, "camped" may be a misleading past tense verb, as I was in an RV all four times. However, I was snug as a bug and not eaten by bugs in the Winnebago. I can't speak for pitching a tent here, but I don't think people can really pitch a fit over the conditions. I have gone "real" camping before and it's rugged, it's rough and it usually does not include a cabana, a pool, a bar or an arcade like this spot does. Camping also does not guarantee the courteous, helpful staff which are available here. I almost wish the staff wasn't so nice because they seriously need to scold, ban and go kung fu style on the bunch of brats that run around unsupervised, while their parents sunbath and/or drink themselves into oblivion. If you want to stay in the Keys, don't want to pay top dollar for accommodations, and don't mind some East Coast hooligans this is a great option. You can rent cabins on-site and there is a shuttle bus from the KOA to Key West for $25-30 dollars. However, for two dollars you can walk to Route 1and take the public bus into Key West. You can also walk across Route 1 to Mangrove Mama's and enjoy wonderful service, delicious food and strong drinks sans brats (usually).

Camping experience was great. Facilities were great and staff was excellent. Too many kids but it's spring break what can you expect. They have a great pool, jacuzzi, fishing area. Bar is great but singer was a little old school.

Well we have to admit that this was the first time for us camping. And I'm not sure if we ever want to go camping again. Mainly it's because of this place. The tent area is a long walk away from the restrooms and in the woods if the place is full. Also the restrooms and showers are dirty, little and the oldest crap I've ever seen. The pool and pub area is during a activity area packed with drunk people and the restrooms there are even tinier! The women came over to the men's restroom. The store and the cafe is a joke too! Don't go here find a nicer place to stay - its a horrible place to stay!!!
